I know you’ve heard it a hundred times before, that the money is in the list. If you can just build a large and responsive list, you’ll be well on the road to success in internet marketing. I’ve struggled to build a list, but recently I discovered an approach that is working for me and I’d like to share it with you. My primary focus right now is working to build a large list. Before I get started I just want to warn you that this is not a push-button approach that creates a list for you on auto pilot. Once everything is set up though, this is a “set and forget” strategy that is beginning to pay dividends for me. It does require the purchase of multiple domains and you will need a hosting account. Other than that the only other cost is your time and effort. There are some paid tools available though that can really help you that I’ll mention later on. Step 1 Find popular free software that people are recommending and build a website geared toward providing information about that software. It’s not too hard to find either. Here are 3 examples that might work for you. Filezilla is a is an FTP program for uploading files to your site that gets over 2 million searches a month. Go to the free Google Keyword Tool and search for the top ten keywords that include Filezilla. There are lots of keyword tools on the market. I like Market Samurai, but it’s a paid service that and can also help you with keyword research and SEO. Another idea is to find keywords around the popular screen capture software Jing and then do the same thing as you did for Filezilla and find the top ten search terms centered around Jing. The 3rd example is to use WordPress and find keywords focusing perhaps on all the popular plugins. These are just 3 examples of popular free software which gets tons of searches each month. Once you have identified your keywords, search for domains that closely match the keyword. I use Name Cheap. It’s important to find a domain that includes your targeted keyword or keyword phrase as this is one of the steps that will help you rank in the search engines.
Step 2 Take your keyword rich domain and go to your cPanel at your host. I like Host Gator. Click on Fantastico and then look for and install Wordress. WordPress is phenomenal and the search engines love it. Once you have it installed you can search for free themes. There are lots to choose from, but don’t get too hung up on your selection. Next go to plugins in the WordPress Dashboard and upload “All-In-One SEO”. The goal to this entire process is to make sure that your on-site search engine optimization equation is lined up correctly. Step 3 Name your new website with the “home keyword” that you selected for your domain. Now you need to write about 10 short articles. 200 words or so is all you need. Use the 10 top keywords that you uncovered when you were conducting your original keyword search. Make sure that you include your targeted keyword in the article title and at least once in the 1st and last paragraphs of your post. Also include a call to action at the end of each post as well. That call to action will take your visitors to a squeeze page offering free information related to the keyword subject. Create a simple squeeze page to offer free information in exchange for your visitors email address. Recent studies have shown that not asking for names will increase your response rate. You’ll also need to create some compelling information to attract opt-ins. Short little articles like “5 steps to creating screen capture videos with Jing in 5 minutes” or “Filezilla For Dummies” or something like that should do the trick. After all the research that you’ve done in writing 10 articles, you should be well versed enough on the topic to offer some valuable tips. You’ll be an instant authority. Step 5 So you’ve created your site and squeeze page, written your posts and created some opt-in bait, now you’ll need to start building links to those sites. I like articles marketing using Unique Article Wizard and have recently gotten into Social Media Marketing using Buzzify.it and Tribe Pro. Another unique source for backlinks that I’m experimenting with is the Automatic Backlink Creator. This approach will make your sites very competitive, but it’s not free. If you want to stick with the free root, then create a Lens on Squidoo and a Hub on Hubpages. Buzzify.it and Tribe Pro also offer free services, but they are somewhat limited, but it’s a good way to get started. Final Thoughts I know you’re saying to yourself that this approach will require a lot of work and it will. If you can create a quality list for yourself though, then you will have lots of leverage down the road. You’ll need to create at least 50 of these sites which will place you in the line of fire of millions of people looking for information on these highly searched keywords. You can create one site at a time and then move another and once everything is set up. It’s pretty much hands free from that point on. Even with a very low opt-in rate you can build a massive list that will pay dividends over and over again. I have found that creating value and offering information is the best way to attract a following. Just work on building a site then creating the content one at a time and you’ll see results.
